From Journey to Abode: The Grace of Eden

The last painting in the series is The Grace of Eden. This one is very similar to The Grace for Eden. The shapes are the same, the colors are similar, but you can see growth. You can tell a transformation has taken place. The Grace for Eden looks dark, muddy, and a little bit unclear, whereas The Grace of Eden, everything is pristine. The lines are laser straight. The colors are much more vibrant and alive.

Originally I wasn't planning on doing another version of the design for The Grace for Eden. But as my painting style developed and I grew as an artist, I wanted to redo that one to give it the justice I felt it deserved. When I had that idea, I was going to replace the original so it would then just be the six paintings. But I shared that idea with a friend and they very strongly suggested to not think of it as a replacement, but to think of it as the true end. So to me, it's a call to remember that the ending is where we begin and where we begin is where we end. It's all circular. It's the beauty of the most basic shape of a circle being repeated in so many ways throughout the series. The name difference in The Grace for Eden suggests that it's the beginning of a journey, whereas The Grace of Eden, to me, represents abiding, resting, and being. We start this journey with the grace to make it back to Eden and we finish it with the grace to abide in there in unity with God.
